After being accepted to the prestigious and elite Westminster Hotel School, where she earned a professional chef diploma, Alison Taafe began pursuing a career in culinary arts. For the past 30 years, she has become well known for her flamboyant, fun and fast approach to all things food. Ms. Taafe was the first chef to ever be awarded a Winston Churchill Fellowship, and was invited to cook for British royalty, including her majesty Queen Elizabeth, as well as two United States presidents. Her acclaim and success prompted her to begin research in the culinary industry and write a graduate program for qualified chefs. The program she wrote was the first of its kind in Australia. Currently, Ms. Taafe is the owner and managing director for Fun, Fast, and Fabulous Food. Through her company, she has published two cookbooks, “Fun, Fast, and Fabulous Food” and “Leftovers Magic,” which educate the reader on a variety of cooking and hosting techniques. Ms. Taafe also served as leading teacher of professional cookery at Southbank Institute of Technology. Named as outstanding educator in 2006, she attributes her success and versatility in the culinary arts to self-motivation, enthusiasm for her profession and a desire to teach people and change people’s lives through food. In the coming years, Ms. Taafe plans to offer more education in food and through her charity, as well as assist others in eating healthy and changing their diets to enable people to “Eat for Your Life.”
Ms. Taafe is founding member of the Chefs of the Future and a member of Les Toque Blanche and the Australian Culinary Federation. She is charitably involved with her foundation, Eat for a Cure. Her next book out will be written purely to assist her charitable endeavors, which is to find a cure for breast cancer through diet. Ms. Taafe’s sister Laura is suffering from secondary breast cancer and her mission in life is to educate people with diverse illnesses to improve their wellbeing and health through food.
Outside of work, she enjoys attending the theater, seeing live concerts, watching movies, traveling, fine dining, and spending time with her husband, Steve.
